There and Back Again

Hello all.

Since I wrote last KC and I took a jaunt up to Victoria, BC and Seattle. We saw many beautiful places, ate some wonderful food, and of course enjoyed the coffee.

All that said, it was by far the most difficult trip we've taken together. The transportation was a battle, our eating and sleeping schedules were not conducive to feeling well, and other little things added up to drain quite a bit of our travel energy. It was really too bad. We spent so much time trying to get to different places that we saw such a small fraction of the things offered there. And I think most of it could have been avoided if it weren't for a combination of not enough preparation and bad luck/timing.

All the same, we are home. We have good memories, pretty photos and a lot of new travel knowledge that we brought back with us. Our cat is purring (and biting a little), our apartment seems both huge and insanely clean, and we are ready to get back into the swing of things.

Individual trip posts will still be coming soon, with a sunnier outlook I promise! I am excited to share our photos and good experiences with you all, as well as our cautions and laughable moments.

Have you ever had a trip like this? How did you deal with it and learn from it?

Victoria (one, two), Seattle, (one, two, three, four)

X,

Alexandra

  1. Sorry to hear it didn't turn out as you had hoped! Logistics is definitely the hardest thing to plan for trips, and tends to take a lot of time out of a vacay (I usually plan on spending a day to just travel from one location to another that are a couple hours away from each other, especially if you're in an unfamiliar area). Glad to hear you're back home safe and sound!

  2. Oh my goodness, I know what you mean. We totally under-prepared for NYC--we were staying with a friend so we basically didn't think we needed to do any research, but then the friend had to leave town halfway through our vacation so we were all alone! I definitely remember coming up out of the subway station with my map app open and STILL having no idea where we were supposed to go! :/ Excited to see your posts, and in the meantime rest up!

  3. What a bummer! That would be extra hard if you were staying with someone you were expecting to spend the duration with. I hope that you still had fun. Other posts coming soon. :) Thank you for reading!

  4. Definitely! We are so used to having a car, or having a shorter period of time in a more walk-able place. It was very hard to get from district to district using the buses. So many stops were not in the place they were described at, and so many buses were driving away as we turned the corner. That caused us to walk miles and miles. Which was good, but also bad, because it took so much longer and made us much more tired than we needed to be! Plus the downtown area was full of pot and belligerent homeless people. It was tough to stomach for me. : /

Oh well, we did some great things, had fun. Canada was really nice. We just would have liked a little more things to have gone right. :) Next time! XO
