Yes You Can Wear Gingham // Lazy Girl Fashion

Hello There Friends! I hope that you are all having a fantastic start to your week! I'm going to keep up the "yes you can wear" posts, so let me know if you are into that... or not so much! :) This time around I'm talking about gingham.

This print has been especially popular lately, but I always felt like it was a little bit too preppy for my personal style. However, I think you just need to find the right piece for you!

This face = v. excited about adult summer reading at my library... LOL
Tips for Wearing Gingham:

1) Assess Your Style: Is your style preppy or traditional? If so, you can pull off quite a bit of gingham. If not, you may want to try a smaller piece or accessory.
2) Pick a Color That Works With Your Wardrobe: Picking baby pink gingham if you usually wear dark colors or neutrals might be a shock to the wardrobe. I chose navy and it mixes and matches so well with my usual darker colors and with the brighter colors I most often wear. If you are looking for more color in your wardrobe, go ahead and look for something bright.
3) Accessorize: One of my favorite ways to try out a trend is with an accessory. That way I'm not out a lot of money if I don't like it, and it is often small enough to work into your wardrobe regardless.

Here are a few gingham items that I really love*:

1) Headband - Modcloth, $9
2) Gingham Bell Sleeve Top - Draper James, $98
3) Gingham Swim Suit - Unique Vintage, top $23, bottom $26 - also in plus
4) Gingham Midi Dress - Modcloth, $64.99
5) Gingham Jumpsuit -  Unique Vintage, $44
6) Gingham Top - Old Navy, $24.97
7) Gingham Heeled Sandal - Draper James, $248

*These are all pretty neutral, but these sites also have a lot of gingham in fun colors. Old Navy has a lot of yellow, Unique Vintage has coral and red, and ModCloth has all kinds of colors!

What do you think? Do you like gingham?

Let me know if you are liking these posts or not in the comments! :)

Yes You Can Wear Overalls // Lazy Girl Fashion

Hello Friends! If you follow me on Instagram, you'll know that I'm a little bit obsessed with my overalls. I found a great pair from Modcloth that aren't super stretchy or fitted and I am kind of living in them!

excuse the streaky mirror. :P

Here are my tips for pulling off overalls!

1) Pick a Neutral Color - you know what goes with your closet. For me I was looking for either black or navy in a wash that wasn't going to seem too trendy. These solid navy ones were just perfect. However, if your wardrobe is mostly neutrals, you might want to go for something fun like this mustard pair.
2) Pair with Contrasting Colors - If your overalls are dark, wear lighter shirts underneath, if they are light, pick darker shirts. Easy peasy!
3) Bonus Points for Patterns - Adding a shirt underneath with a fun pattern, or even texture makes your outfit even more interesting. I love wearing stripes and floral patterns in light colors under my navy overalls.

Extras: Consider shorts overalls, regular length overalls, skirt/overall jumpers, and non-denim fabrics too. If you expand your definition of overalls you will definitely have more luck picking what is right for you and your closet!

What do you think? Do you own a pair of overalls?

I am considering buying this overall dress/jumper. I think it will be SO CUTE for fall!

I am not being sponsored or getting any payment for sharing this link, I simply adore these! However, if you want to purchase from Modcloth, please feel free to use my referral code for 20% off $75 or more! :) And if you were curious, they make returns super easy, which is a must for me in the online shopping world!

12 Ways to Add Coral to Your Wardrobe! // Pantone Color of the Year 2019

"Living Coral" is the Pantone color of the year. I've heard mixed opinions from people on how exciting (or not exciting) it is. Personally, I like coral quite a bit! It wasn't anything too "out there" for the color of the year. *shrugs* I'm not complaining about it! :) If you guys don't know Sarena she is a color consultant (cool!) and I just love her blog! We decided to join together and share some fun ways to add coral to your wardrobe.

Several things are true of my own personal style:

1) I want to be comfortable.
2) I like to wear pops of bright colors, rather than head-to-toe rainbow hues
3) I like to find inexpensive items to round out my wardrobe - I've been known to splurge, but only on key pieces.

I hope that this gives you some ideas for how to add a little bit of coral to your everyday wardrobe.... without feeling like a neon sign, compromising comfort, or breaking the bank!

1) Fjallraven Kanken Mini Backpack - Fjallraven, in peach pink, $70.00 - I have this bag in navy and I have been so happy with it! Especially great for travel or if you have kiddos!
2) Coral Resin Bracelet - Sugarfix via Target, $14.99
3) Polka Dot Button Up Blouse - Unique Vintage + Pantone, $68.00 (in plus also!)
4) Woven Tank - Aerie, $25.00 - I would wear this with a black blazer and dark skinnies.
5) Watermelon Keds - Keds via Modcloth, $69.00*
6) Coral Bow Bell Sleeve Top - LC Lauren Conrad for Kohls (in petite also!), $32.99
7) Faux Suede Knotted-Twist Slide Sandals - Old Navy, $14.00
8) Coral Sunglasses - Aerie, $15.95
9) Cashmere Travel Wrap - White and Warren, $219.00 (a travel wrap is always on my to-invest list!)
10) Gingham Swing Skirt - Unique Vintage + Pantone, $78.00 (in plus also!) - I would wear this with a graphic tee.
11) Birkenstock Arizona Eva Sandals - Birkenstock via Aerie, $39.95 - I bought traditional Birks last year and now SWEAR by them! BONUS: I have heard that these "water friendly" ones are GREAT for the pool and vacation. Hello... THEY FLOAT! Yesss.
12) Coral Nail Polish - Essie, $8.99 - this color doesn't look coral, but I promise that it is!

Colors to Pair with Coral:

There you have it, 12 items to add to coral your wardrobe! I would personally wear coral with mostly neutrals, especially utility green, and navy!

I hope that you enjoyed this post! Hop on over to Sarena's page and check out her coral picks! While you are there find out what season you are! I am a Clear Spring. I'd love to have her do a full color analysis for me someday! Bday gift. Cough. Cough. :)

Do you like coral? Do you have some in your closet?

Are you a color lover, or do you use it more sparingly?

Alexandra

Oscars Dresses 2019 // Red Carpet Love

Ahhh another year, another Oscars. :) I loved, loved, loved so many things about this year's awards.

1) So much diversity in the nominations and winners!
2) A man from my city, and university won an oscar!!!!
3) Kacey Musgraves
4) Youthful fashion

Here are my favorites! It's no surprise that I'm loving the feminine and flowy dresses most. That's my jam. Somewhat surprisingly there was A LOT of pink. Very bright, very pastel, very voluminous, and so so fun and youthful. Not normally my thing, but I thought it was lovely! Also, can we talk about all of the velvet tuxedos...?!

Here we go!

The Gowns:

Amandla Stenberg - so stunning!
Constance Wu - yellow is always a favorite of mine!

Elaine Welteroth - wowww!

Gemma Chan - Can we please talk about how it has pockets and she put a COOKIE in the pocket?! #gemmachanismyhomegirl

Helen Mirren - so much fun! So youthful!

Jennifer Hudson - so sleek!

Jessica Oyelowo - all that glitters!

Kacey Musgraves - like cotton candy.

Leslie Bibb - elegant.

Linda Cardellini - so fun!

Lynette Howell Taylor - that lace!

Marie Kondo - sparks joy ;)

Marina de Tavira - my favorite this year!

Michelle Yeoh - like a painting.

Octavia Spencer - like the night sky.

On to the Tuxes:

Billy Porter - making a major statement. Fabulous.

Chris Evans - That BLUE!

David Oyelowo - green is such an under-loved color!
Stephen James and Shamier Anderson - those accessories!

Anyhow, yeah, lots of great fashion this year. I admittedly haven't seen a lot of the movies that were nominated... just Black Panther ... which is nothing new... I'm not super into "film". LOL But I do hope to see Green Book, BlaKkKlansman, The Favourite, and If Beale Street Could Talk eventually. :)

What did you guys think? Did you watch the Oscars?

Which dresses or movies were your favorites?

My FAVORITE Velvet Dress Three Ways

Sooo... I'm ready for fall....

I know a lot of you commented last fall that you would love to add velvet to your wardrobe, but aren't sure how. I am still loving the velvet trend, and it's not going anywhere! (REJOICE!)

I have a few tips, which I guess I should post :P, but I thought that I would share this post first. A fairly basic velvet dress can be dressed up or down very easily, especially in the cooler months!

Here are three of my go-to looks for this burgundy velvet dress! (IT NOW COMES IN BLACK TOO!) :) It is stretchy, comfortable, flattering, and looks good with EVERYTHING.

I am not being sponsored or getting any payment for sharing this link, I simply adore the dress! However, if you want to purchase from Modcloth, please feel free to use my referral code for 20% off $75 or more! :) And if you were curious, they make returns super easy, which is a must for me in the online shopping world!

All right, let's gooo!

Casual:

I love how the dark neutral color allows me to mix and match with my everyday basics like my favorite utility jacket, black tights, my Sam Edelman booties, and a fun pom pom scarf!

Cozy:

Chilly days call for an oversized cardigan, a knit scarf, tights, and my uggs! I love that this dress is stretchy and sooo comfortable! I feel like I'm wearing pajamas, but it's professional enough to wear to work or cute enough to meet friends!

Dressy:

Lastly, this dress is perfect for special events! Especially during the holidays! Adding some sparkly jewelry, or an embellished cardigan helps me feel so polished! My sister even borrowed this dress for her husband's work Christmas party last year! I've also dressed this up with patterned flats and my burgundy moto jacket that has pretty rose gold hardware!

There you go, three ways to wear my favorite velvet dress

How do you feel about velvet?!

Do you have a dress that you can dress up or down for any occasion?

I am not being sponsored or getting any payment for sharing this link, I simply adore the dress! However, if you want to purchase from Modcloth, please feel free to use my referral code for 20% off $75 or more! :) And if you were curious, they make returns super easy, which is a must for me in the online shopping world!

Oscars Dresses 2018 // Red Carpet Love

Happy Monday, Friends! I hope that you had a great weekend!

This week is KC's bday week, and we are hanging out with my sister Olivia while my parents have their last (I HOPE) divorce trial. I suppose it's a good thing our travel plans fell through. Hoping to make the most of it. Feeling a little sad that we weren't able to travel in Jan/Feb due to illness and now due to travel and family issues, but it will all be fine I'm sure. Hopefully we can make April super fun! :)

Onward! Let's talk about the pretty Oscars dresses! I didn't watch the coverage or the Oscars themselves, but I always love to see the dresses. To be honest, it's not the Oscars fault.. I just can't really watch anything for that long anymore. It doesn't hold my attention!

Most of the gowns that I loved this year were white or blush toned, and most were flowy. There's nothing unusual in that. What is a bit unusual though, is how many I loved. Last year there was such a smaller pool! :) (and there were so many more I wanted to add!) ... *all images via google*

Allison Janney - Congratulations on Your Oscar! :)

Zoey Deutch

Allison Williams

Elizabeth Moss

Emily Blunt

Gal Gadot

Gina Rodriguez - MY FAVORITE

Greta Gerwig - I LOVE YELLOW!

Jennifer Garner

Jennifer Lawrence - she looks like a mermaid

Keala Settle

Samara Weaving

Pheobe Waller

Molly Simms

Marai Nagasu

Mira Sorvino
Margot Robbie

Leslie Mann

Leslie Bibb
Laura Dern

Kumail Nanjaini and Emily V. Gordon

What was your favorite dress?!

I also can't help but add Tom Holland, because he's so cute. Look at Spiderman all dapper! Again this was difficult, so many good suits.. I just should have posted like 80 photos.

Anyhow, yeah, lots of great fashion this year. I admittedly haven't seen a lot of the movies that were nominated. I do have The Big Sick and Coco on deck sometime this week. I would like to eventually see The Post, Lady Bird, and The Shape of Water. (at least). :)

What did you guys think? Did you watch the Oscars?

Which dresses or movies were your favorites?
