Happy Birthday KC! // 2019

Today is KC's birthday! He is turning 28, and we're in full swing of "bday week". :) :) If you're new here, and wondering why we do a WHOLE week... check out the bottom of this post!

Here Are 12 Things You Didn't Know About KC:

1) His hair is currently longer than mine. (read about the man bun saga, here)
2) One of his fave meals is buffalo chicken mac and cheese
3) As a kid/tween his favorite movie was The Matrix, but he hadn't seen it in at least 10 years until last night. :)
4) He has a kick ass 90s pop playlist, which you can find here. (Spotify)
5) He loves his flannel plaid and buffalo check shirts. And his hiking boots. Seriously, I have to hide them in the summer so he won't heat exhaust.
6) He's soooo laid back and that helps keep me calm.
7) He's very good at story telling and world building. He brings D&D sessions to life.
8) He's not a big drinker, but loves a good coffee/milk stout. (Left Hand Nitro Milk Stout is his fave)
9) He started baking bread this year! (Catch the action videos on Instagram Stories from time to time)
10) He often thinks about wing suits.
11) He loves The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings movies.
12) I asked him to read the Lunar Chronicles and he did. hehe (he liked them)

Why We Do A Bday Week for KC:

KC is absolutely the sweetest most selfless human I've ever met. I'm not saying that because he's my husband, I'm saying it because it's true. He'll do things he doesn't want to do when he really doesn't have to. He puts me, his family, his friends, and many others before himself nearly all of the time. He spoils me every day just by being with me. He gives his time and service without thinking. Because he so rarely asks for anything, or to do anything just for himself... I like to make a big deal out of his birthday. It's the only time when I can truly spoil him. I don't expect to make up for it, because he'll keep on being his selfless self... but I like to show him how much I appreciate him once per year. 

Bday week started back in 2012 after we got married. Each day I do something fun for him. It might be a gift, it might be an activity, a meal, etc. It's quite often something that's just his favorite. For example, we go to his favorite restaurants that I don't LOVE. One year I gave him a new board game almost every day. It just depends on the year. :) Some years are "better" than others based on time available, budget, etc. but I do my best to make each bday week enjoyable for him. Last year was pretty epically bad.. you know because my parents got divorced ON his bday... and that whole saga was super stressful anyhow... so this year I'm hoping that he really really really enjoys himself!

Anyhow, happy birthday my love! I'm so excited to spend another great year with you. I hope that this year is your favorite year yet!

Happy Birthday KC! // 2017

Well friends, today is KC's bday! He is turning 26, and I've got a whole bday week* planned, which I'll have to tell you about later! *secrets* :)

As usual... I have a lot of mushy thoughts... and so I'll try to form some type of post... :) - sometimes I try not to repeat.. but do anyway.

12 Facts about KC

1. He has the prettiest sea green eyes.
2. He used to be the pickiest eater. Now he'll eat almost anything!
3. He has a ton of fun designing D&D adventures for his friends. He's still selling online guides, over $1500 made on just one!
4. When we first started dating, KC loooooved Bowling for Soup. I kid you not.
5. He made a playlist that's just for cleaning so he feels super pumped about dishes or an apartment sweep. (it's a good one!)
6. He has the sharpest and simultaneously most creative mind. He always amazes me with his abilities and new ideas.
7. He loves a lazy weekend.
8. He sticks up for what's right. (whether it's reminding young gamers that using "raped" in another context is not something to joke about, or sticking up for equality pre- and post- election.)
9. He loves Ron Swanson & also bacon. - those go hand in hand, obvs.
10. He's not concerned with stereotypical gender roles. He'll rock T-swift, he'll take me to see Pride and Prejudice, he'll laugh over cute cat videos, and tiny baby clothes with me. 
11. The man bun is still going strong... for those who were curious.
12. Growing up Robin Hood was his favorite Disney Movie.

*if you wonder why we do a bday week for KC's birthday, or if you're thinking... that's excessive and unrealistic. Here's why I do it:

Happy Birthday KC!

Today, KC is 25.

I typically.. do kind of a mushy... bday post... (like this one). So let's mix it up. (though the mushiness is still true!).

12 Things You Didn't Know About KC

1) He was corn for Halloween as a baby. (his mom made the costume!)
2) He loves to play racquetball.
3) He has beautiful green eyes.
4) People who observe him outside of social situations think that he's very serious. That cracks me up.
5) He makes puns and dad jokes like they're going out of style.
6) He has a crap-ton of awesome mixes on spotify, which he dubs, "KC's Masterpiece (vol. #)" LOL, like the bbq sauce. (see #5)
7) Speaking of bbq sauce... He loves bbq sauce. Seriously, he gets sad when we travel and restaurants don't have bbq sauce.
8) He'll read a book I like, if I really want him to. He usually enjoys them.
9) He's into the "nerdy" stuff. He plays MTG and he DMs. (& he's good at it) He did a "home brew" D&D character guide, and put it up on a site, he's made like $400 off of it. It's insane.
10) He loves pets and kids. He's totally down to hold babies, and play with dogs when we visit people who have babies, dogs, or both. :)
11) He makes a mean margarita. Yum.
12) He's extremely selfless.

Happy Birthday KC // 2014

This is KC.

He is the best man in the whole world.

He's hilarious.

He's brilliant.

He gets up early and wakes me up later.

He goes along with my crazy schemes. 

He can draw or sculpt something out of tin foil at the drop of a hat. 

He makes up games, songs, jokes, stories and pictures... which means I'm never bored.

He'll happily get himself a large drink so that I can drag him through Goodwill or The Salvation Army for an hour. Ok 3, 4, 5 hours....

He keeps me in caffeine.

He's just nerdy enough .. hoh hoh hoh.. 

He can always pop my back.

He snuggles with me on the couch, especially when I've had a really rough day.

He dreams, schemes, plans, wishes and hopes with me.

He makes me think differently about the world.

He has the best smile I've ever seen.

Snapshots of MUSE

If you read this blog you probably know that I love music. Luckily, so does Kyle. We also love to travel. So as often as we can we like to combine those two loves.

For Christmas this past year, Kyle was mentioning how much "stuff" he has and how few things he wanted when everyone began asking. So I decided to make the majority of his present concert tickets. Oftentimes when I look for tickets during a specific time-frame, there isn't anyone great playing. This time though, I got very lucky and found MUSE tickets in St. Louis for the day after his birthday! How perfect is that?!?

Anyhow, we had to wait for a while, but it was well worth it. We drove down after lunch and checked into our hotel. We drove straight to the SLU Campus to the Chaifetz Arena where the show was taking place. It was a really nice, new facility with a lot of concession options. Normally we would find a restaurant, but we were too hungry to wait! 

We found our seats and for once were seated next to nice normal people who didn't take off their clothes, throw things or spill on us! On one side we had two teenagers who were brother and sister. They were actually there for the music and were really nice and were enjoying the show. On the other side was a group of guys in their late 30s who had driven from Nashville for the show. Which turns out to be the same amount of time as it took us to get there from Lawrence. They were nice and friendly. They were really into the music as well, so it was great!

The show was fantastic! I had always heard that they were great live, but to actually experience it is something else! :) They played a bunch of my favorites {from 2004! haha} as well as some new stuff. The visuals of the show were amazing and the sound was incredible! They sounded just like they do on the album, but you know it was live. 

Many of their songs are really dramatic and political and they displayed the lyrics in lights so people were singing along and it was really cool. I felt very connected to the rest of the crowd, which isn't something that always happens. Kyle enjoyed his present both in the spirit of Christmas and his birthday. Plus we got him a cool shirt for his collection. :)

We had a great time and went to sleep with our ears ringing.

The worst part of the trip was that a bunch of young guys came into their room {right next to us} at 3 am and were EXTREMELY loud. I can't even put into words how loud they were. I called the front desk and apparently a bunch of other people on the floor were too. Luckily the guy at the front desk took care of it. I want people to be happy and have a good time, but it's just not ok to do that! 

The next day we drove back, deciding not to explore anymore. We wanted to spend some time relaxing at home. Plus we had Spring Break coming up a week later {post coming soon!}.

 It was probably the shortest "trip" I've written about, but it was really nice.

I highly recommend both MUSE and the Chaifetz Arena!
