Snapshots on the Road to Houston, TX // February 2016

Look out guys, I am catching right up on my travel posts. hehe

In February we really needed a getaway. So we took a few days to drive down to Houston and Galveston. About an 11 hour drive for us.

On our way to the destination we stopped in Oklahoma City for lunch, and a bit of walking. One of our good friends lives there, and he recommended a fabulous grilled cheese place which was in this really cute little shopping area. We stopped for the night in the Greater Dallas area and stayed with Kira from Retro Dorothy. She showed us around the thrift shops and half price books! Woot! And we got to pet her cute kittens and corgi Ruby!

*IT WAS REALLY SUNNY! LOL*

Eat:

OKC: We ate at The Mule. Their menu is pretty much just specialty grilled cheese. I got a "Caprese" one that was very good, and KC got a "Macaroni Pony" - which is jalepeno corn bread with mac and cheese and pulled pork. They came with fries. I would definitely recommend sharing with someone unless you are super hungry!

GDA: Cafe Brazil for breakfast. Oh my goodness, what a huge menu and everything we tried was really really good. It was so quirky on the outside and had a sort of "College town" funky/artsy vibe inside. KC and I each tried the migas and they were SO good. Kira, her hubby Joe, and friend Ellie opted for the Pancrepes with fruit and I believe they all liked them too! :) We also ate at Afrah, which is a great Mediterranean restaurant. They had one of those cucumber/tomato salads that was fabulous! NOM.

See/Do/Shop:

OKC: Cute shops near the mule. Fun local products and hand made items.

GDA: Thrift stores with SO much stuff, a really nice half price books as well.

Favorites: Getting to meet Kira and her fuzzy family! Seeing the cute shopping area in OKC.

New Experiences: Meeting Kira, and a blogger friend IRL. Staying over with people we'd never met before. Trying gourmet grilled cheese.

Thank you so much for your hospitality Kira!

Have you ever met an online friend IRL?

Have you tried gourmet grilled cheese before? What about Migas?

We also visited Texas (Ft. Worth, Austin, Corpus ChristiKyle, and San Antonio) in 2012. And in 2013 we visited Garland and Amarillo. But we've never been to "East Texis" - as Sheldon Cooper would say. So we had lots of fun exploring this area! A mini gulf trip!

Happy Travels!
