Yes You Can Wear Gingham // Lazy Girl Fashion

Hello There Friends! I hope that you are all having a fantastic start to your week! I'm going to keep up the "yes you can wear" posts, so let me know if you are into that... or not so much! :) This time around I'm talking about gingham.

This print has been especially popular lately, but I always felt like it was a little bit too preppy for my personal style. However, I think you just need to find the right piece for you!

This face = v. excited about adult summer reading at my library... LOL
Tips for Wearing Gingham:

1) Assess Your Style: Is your style preppy or traditional? If so, you can pull off quite a bit of gingham. If not, you may want to try a smaller piece or accessory.
2) Pick a Color That Works With Your Wardrobe: Picking baby pink gingham if you usually wear dark colors or neutrals might be a shock to the wardrobe. I chose navy and it mixes and matches so well with my usual darker colors and with the brighter colors I most often wear. If you are looking for more color in your wardrobe, go ahead and look for something bright.
3) Accessorize: One of my favorite ways to try out a trend is with an accessory. That way I'm not out a lot of money if I don't like it, and it is often small enough to work into your wardrobe regardless.

Here are a few gingham items that I really love*:

1) Headband - Modcloth, $9
2) Gingham Bell Sleeve Top - Draper James, $98
3) Gingham Swim Suit - Unique Vintage, top $23, bottom $26 - also in plus
4) Gingham Midi Dress - Modcloth, $64.99
5) Gingham Jumpsuit -  Unique Vintage, $44
6) Gingham Top - Old Navy, $24.97
7) Gingham Heeled Sandal - Draper James, $248

*These are all pretty neutral, but these sites also have a lot of gingham in fun colors. Old Navy has a lot of yellow, Unique Vintage has coral and red, and ModCloth has all kinds of colors!

What do you think? Do you like gingham?

Let me know if you are liking these posts or not in the comments! :)

Have You Heard? // Taylor Swift - "The Archer"

Happy Friday Friends! I hope that you had a great week and are looking forward to this weekend. :)

This week we got another Taylor Swift song! :) It's called The Archer, and I cannot say it's my jam. Music is really going back to an 80's lately with lots of synth, etc. and it is just not my thing. I was hoping to like this anyhow, but I'm not over the moon about it. It's also just pretty darn slow, and doesn't quite pick up as much as I want it to. It reminds me a little bit of Getaway Car from Reputation and that was maybe my least favorite song on the album! Oh well!

STILL EXCITED FOR THE ALBUM THOUGH! :)

What do you think? Has anyone else noticed this trend? Are you here for it or not?

What are you guys up to this weekend?!

Right now, we have very few plans and I'm pretty excited about that! I'm hoping to do a lot of reading and maybe make a hummingbird cake! I haven't made one before, but it is one of my 2019 goals! I've also been wanting to re-start Sabrina the Teenage Witch. We watched one episode last year and then got distracted. I love the original series and think that the spooky twist is super fun!

Halloween 2018!

If you saw my recent post you'll know that I'm catching up on some of the festive moments of 2018. Since we were moving into our home and getting settled, blogging took a backseat, so here we go, my very favorite holiday... Halloween!

Last Halloween we had our annual costume party game night which was super fun! It was especially fun to have it for the first time in our new home!

The Decor:

We used our black and white decorations that we made a few years ago and have been using ever since. We also added in some postcards that we picked up while we visited Salem earlier that month. We only added decorations in a few places, but it felt very festive!

The Playlist:

We're still listening to my Halloween playlist from 2014! I have added to it over time and it is nice and long, which is perfect for a games evening!

The Food:

We decided to make Halleweeños again and friends filled in the gaps since we were still getting settled in our home! One thing of note were the GBBO themed pumpkin macarons that our friends Will and Cara brought. They dressed up as Paul and Mary Berry so it was a funny touch that they decorated their macarons to say things like "scrumy"!

The Costumes:

We dressed up like garden gnomes and had such a blast with it! We were able to wear our ordinary clothes in a much more colorful way. All we had to do was pick up red felt to make our hats and a fake hair material for a beard and eyebrows for KC.

I love how they turned out, and I was super excited that ModCloth shared my costume with all of their followers since my green dress is one I bought from their store. How flattering! Overall we had a great time being gnomes, but it is always nice to be noticed! :) I will definitely share a tutorial sometime closer to Halloween to add to my costume tutorial collection!

How cute is Duchess with one of the hats?!? We couldn't believe that she sat there for so long. It was adorable.

We had a great night playing board games with everyone, and showing off our house a little. At this point we had only been there for two months, so we weren't at all settled, but it was nice to show everyone what we'd been working on!

Does anyone else love Halloween?!

Is anyone else already thinking about this year's costumes?!

We're Headed to Disney World!! // Calling All Travelers!

Hello All! If you saw my IG post and reveal, we are headed to Disney World (Florida) in December! We are suuuuppperrr excited. Pretty much listening, watching, thinking about Disney non-stop 'round these parts.

And as you can see, I got my first pair of ears, which are meant to be reindeer themed. They aren't quite as cute as they looked in the picture... but they're alright. Looking forward to buying more pairs before we go.

So, my questions to you are:

1) what do we have to do/eat/see?
2) what are your best tips?
3) any amazing hacks we should know?
4) anything else you want to share?

I am compiling tips via Pinterest and YouTube like crazy, so I promise to share our planning tips and our park tips before and after travel respectively!

Thank you in advance for your tips!

We're soooo excited, and wish it was December a little bit...

Have You Heard? // Shawn Mendes feat. Camila Cabello - "Señorita"

HAPPY FRIDAY FRIENDS! Do you notice anything different around here?! I'm so happy to have finally settled on a new design for this space. I have been thinking about it for such a long time! I've had 3 previous designs over 9 years, and I love how this space has grown with me! Let me know what you think of the new look!

I'm so glad it is the weekend. I hope that you have a breezy Friday where you catch up on a bunch of things lingering in the week, and take some time for yourself. :)

I can't KC or I are huge fans of Shawn Mendes, but we do really like Camila Cabello. This song is sooo good. So add it to your summer playlist, or listen to it while you knock out your work to-dos. The video is a little bit NSFW, fyi.

What do you think? I think it is catchy! :)

What are you guys up to this weekend??

We aren't up to too much. KC has to work on Saturday so I will probably read/scrapbook/bake/etc. Then we'll hang out in the evening and see some friends on Sunday afternoon for a DISNEY MOVIE NIGHT! I'm sooooo excited! A new batch of besties is getting ready to move to different states again ( :( !!! ) So, we're trying to get time in where we can.

Keep It Together // July 2019

Hello friends! It's Keep It Together day!! It has been a fun documenting month around here! :)

I am excited to post today with Lauren at Shooting Stars Mag for our Keep It Together!

If you are new here, this is our linkup for all things planners, memory keeping, and journaling. Please feel free to join us on the third Thursday of the month with any posts that fall into those categories! :)

Planning:

I am enjoying my EC planner even still, and have been adding my highlights of the week in the left hand bar in my weekly spreads. I used to menu plan in that space, but we're not there yet. LOLOL I love that this is keeping me focused on gratitude but also keeping a record of what I've been up to. :) It always makes me feel so grateful at the end of the week to reflect on the good things that happened!

Documenting:

Kacey Musgraves Inspired Album:

I made a fun mini album for my giveaway winner Megan! She's a fan of Kacey Musgraves's song Butterflies and collects them, so I decided to run with that theme.

The album turned out so moody and gorgeous. I love it and hope that she does too! Check out the full scrapbook in the video below.

Boston Album:

I'm working on my Boston & NE Road Trip album. It is a TN size, and I am having fun documenting this trip finally. I feel like I'm "catching up" a bit, but really I'm just having fun and getting to what I get to. Which has been key in my experience documenting! hahaha

Another Giveaway Album:

I am working on a giveaway album for my second YouTube winner, Hallie. We went to high school together and I am super excited to make her a little album! :)

What's Next?!

I am still working on what I want to do for 2019 documenting... ooof. A lot of cute collections are coming out, including an adorable Halloween one which I am going to have to get for my October Daily! :)

CLASSES: I also heard from the library that I can hold scrapbook classes and open scrapbook times at the library! So I am hoping to get something going for that here pretty soon! :)

Have you been working on any documenting? Any local(ish) people feel like coming to a scrapbook class/open scrap session?

Please feel free to linkup with us below! We'd love to see what you are up to!

Make sure to hop on over and see Lauren's post! :)

Alexandra

Yes You Can Wear Overalls // Lazy Girl Fashion

Hello Friends! If you follow me on Instagram, you'll know that I'm a little bit obsessed with my overalls. I found a great pair from Modcloth that aren't super stretchy or fitted and I am kind of living in them!

excuse the streaky mirror. :P

Here are my tips for pulling off overalls!

1) Pick a Neutral Color - you know what goes with your closet. For me I was looking for either black or navy in a wash that wasn't going to seem too trendy. These solid navy ones were just perfect. However, if your wardrobe is mostly neutrals, you might want to go for something fun like this mustard pair.
2) Pair with Contrasting Colors - If your overalls are dark, wear lighter shirts underneath, if they are light, pick darker shirts. Easy peasy!
3) Bonus Points for Patterns - Adding a shirt underneath with a fun pattern, or even texture makes your outfit even more interesting. I love wearing stripes and floral patterns in light colors under my navy overalls.

Extras: Consider shorts overalls, regular length overalls, skirt/overall jumpers, and non-denim fabrics too. If you expand your definition of overalls you will definitely have more luck picking what is right for you and your closet!

What do you think? Do you own a pair of overalls?

I am considering buying this overall dress/jumper. I think it will be SO CUTE for fall!

I am not being sponsored or getting any payment for sharing this link, I simply adore these! However, if you want to purchase from Modcloth, please feel free to use my referral code for 20% off $75 or more! :) And if you were curious, they make returns super easy, which is a must for me in the online shopping world!

Focusing on the Festive // Back in the Swing of Things

When I started this blog 9 (WOW!) years ago, my intention was to document things that inspired me and to keep a record of special moments.

Many of those moments for me are holidays. I love to cook, bake, and mix up fun drinks for special occasions and most importantly share those things with incredible people. So, yes that means that I especially love holidays and throwing parties for friends and family!

When we moved in with KC's family to finish saving for our home, and then moved into our house last year, this space took a bit of a back seat, and so I'm going to go ahead and do some catch up posts! I didn't even post about Halloween last year. GASP! I'm looking forward to revisiting the festive parts of last year, and to keep sharing more festive moments as this year goes on.

We did have lovely festive moments with friends and family that I am excited to retroactively share and document here. It doesn't seem right to leave them out any longer!

Thank you to anyone who has been a reader here, I'm looking forward to continuing blogging about festive moments along with books, planners, and scrapbooks as the year goes on. :)

If there is anything specific you'd like to see, please let me know!

Have You Heard? // Kacey Musgraves - "Love is a Wild Thing"

Happy Friday Friends! I hope that you had a great week, and if you didn't... the weekend is nearly here! :) Do something nice for yourself!

It is no secret that I've been a big Kacey Musgraves fan since I first heard one of her songs last summer. Every time I listen to the album I have a new favorite song. Lately it is this one. It's so dreamy, happy, hopeful.. I can't wait to see her sing it live in September!

What are you guys up to this weekend??

Tonight I am going to the library booksale with my mom, sister, and nephew. Maybe we'll grab dinner with KC afterward. :) Saturday we have D&D with some close friends. We provoked an *actual* dragon... the outlook isn't great. Sunday we have a goodbye party for friends who are getting ready to move up to Iowa for grad school. I will miss her, but seeing as she most recently lived in Taiwan... Iowa is manageable. :) Hoping to read, plant my flowers in the ground, scrapbook, and who knows... maybe make more cookies? If you've been following along on IG, I bought myself a decorating kit and am having fun practicing and experimenting. :)

29 // Birthday Celebrations + Fourth of July 2019

Hello Friends! I hope that you had a lovely fourth of July and weekend! I wanted to share a little bit about my birthday and the fourth!

Why my Birthday & The Fourth are Complicated (aka making new traditions):

My whole life until my parents moved to Arizona we had a cookout for the fourth with family that was also my birthday party, and often my aunt's as well. It was so nice to have everyone together, to share meals, and to set off fireworks. (the city where I grew up doesn't have any restrictions about setting off fireworks within city limits.) Once they moved, KC and I spent a few years traveling for my birthday, and every year I ended up feeling really sad and missing how things used to be. KC's family doesn't really have any traditions for the holiday, so we didn't have an easy replacement for the old traditions. This was the first year in a long time where I didn't feel sad because that tradition no longer happens. It was so so nice, and such a relief. Overall I had a much nicer birthday and holiday than I've had in a really long time. A big big big part of that is KC, his patience, and his planning. It also feels like it was meant to be that our new home happens to have a great view of the city fireworks, and a big enough yard to hang out in. Especially for a girl who grew up thinking the fireworks were for her birthday, and not America's. ;) I felt like we were creating a new tradition and

Here we go!

My Birthday!

This year I turned 29, and KC really spoiled me. We had breakfast at home and he gave me gifts to unwrap before we headed out to a few bookstores, the mall (obviously had a pretzel), and then went to Papersource before getting tapas for happy hour. It was a fun day to spend together doing fairly normal things that I enjoy. It was nice just to be together without any obligations or worries.

The Fourth!

On the fourth we had people over for a cookout/potluck/my birthday party. Our house has a really good view of the city fireworks. We had a lot of fun eating, chatting, watching fireworks, and making sparkler art. I was so grateful to everyone who wished me happy birthday! Our sweet neighbor even came over and had a vegetarian only grill for our veggie guests. He grilled the best sweet corn and brought over homemade herb compound butters. So spoiled by his generosity!

Family Dinner:

Then on Saturday we went to visit my mom and grandma. She made hot dogs and mac and cheese which we never have anymore, but was a treat for us growing up. My sister and nephew came and we looked at old pictures which was such a blast from the past. These photos of KC and Darrick kill me. Too cute.

What about you guys?

Do you have any fourth of July or birthday traditions?

I'm really enjoying making new ones. :)

Alexandra
